About GFCI

The club kick started the year 2017 by visiting an orphanage home at ijamido, the club went there with a lot of gift items, foods and cash as well. The club encourages the whole team to participate in the motion after enlightening every individual on the benefit of giving and the rewards behind having a good heart. The club didn’t stop there, they went on forward to donate chairs and desks to the ilupeju community primary school to enhance learning and as well support the educational system in her environs at her level at that time.

When the season started, a few players of the team started to rebel against the team head coach (Coach Agu Joseph) and started to divide the team but GFCI was lucky to have a coordinator and a visionary who seeks God first before taking any decision. He initially placed the coach under a month suspension but he was asked to be present in all of the activities taking place during the period of his suspension but wasn’t allowed to be part of it. After all said and done observations, the management of the team found the Coach worthy to lead the team as the Head Coach as he continued to do his job at best and all players were made to see the reason why Coach had to remain in the team.

On the 19th February, 2017 the Coach led the team to an away friendly match at Ajah, Lagos State against Rising Stars and lost by 1 goal to nil. GFCI hosted Rising Star at their Home on the 20th April, 2017 and won by 2 goals to nil.
GFCI acquired a new Costa bus, recording a total number of two (2) buses in 3 years. The club was growing strong in numbers, fame and riches in its environs, Ota, Ogun State.

May 1st, 2017 the club went on a two days tour with her players in the City of Sagamu. The first match was played the same day against Abs Ogere Fc and secured a win by scoring 3 goals to 1. On the 2nd May, 2017 the team travelled from Sagamu to Ijebu Ode, Dipo Dina Stadium for their second match against Almar Fc, a third division club in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL). GFCI lost the match by conceding 8 goals to nil and this defeat was recorded as the highest defeat in the history of GFCI ever.

A few competitions were played across the year such as Ijamido Cup and Synergy Cup. The Ijamido Cup wasn’t the best for the team having secured only four (4) points which was not enough to see her through the group stage of the competition.
The team went ahead to play the Synergy competition and walked out of the group stage securing six (6) points having lost her first match alone but couldn’t go further through the Quarter final of the competition, after losing out on a penalty shootout to Fackson FC.

In the same year, GFCI held a memorable anniversary celebration. There was an abundance of food, enough to eat and to drink. Players ate to their satisfaction and were pleading not to be served anymore. Also, more than enough food was given to all players to take home so as to enjoy with their families. The interesting part of the anniversary was the food competition aspect. The club has recorded a player who ate about more than six (6) wraps of swallow, ate rice and as if that was not enough, he ate beans and bread at the same time and balanced it with 4 soft drinks. Indeed, there was more than enough food. The players are always remembered at any GFCI event of GFCI and nobody has broken the record till date.

Owode competition came up in 2019, January to be précised and GFCI decided to take a slot in the competition and had their first match on the 20th of January 2019 but came out of the match with just a point after sharing the spoils with custom FC in a goalless draw. They didn’t relent but went on to the 2nd match of the competition on the 29th January 2019 with diamond FC and they were flawless in the game after securing a win by 2 goals to nil, and not that alone but also dominated the game after a 72% to 28% ball possession. Moving on to the next match, which happened to be the last match in the group stage, GFCI were faced by the home team (Owode strikers FC) on the 31st of January 2019, it wasn’t all easy for the visitors but they maintained their stands and heed to the coaches instructions and walked out of the match with a 1-1 draw and GFCI came out of the group with 5 points and as the 2nd in the group. They moved on to the next round of the competition and were faced with bright fc on the 5th of February 2019, it was a tough one after fighting hard with her opponent, the match was settled on penalty shoot out, and GFCI emerged as the winner after finishing the penalty on 5-3

GFCI introduced two new jerseys (black and red stripes and red socks, another orange and play stripes and orange socks). The management introduced the two new jerseys because the team had in her agenda to open a football camp. The camping started on the 17th of march 2019, and all players were asked to resume the camping house located at 8, John Oyawale Street, off Ogun bus stop, Iyana Iyesi, Ota , Ogun State.

Agents arrived at the camp and were impressed by what they saw and applauded the team management for a job well done and as well noticed the fitness level of the players. The CEO and the football agents discussed the movement of the players and the football agents assured him of taking as many as possible players to Asia. The CEO got 29 visas for the player, the first historical achievement in Sango Ota. Coach Agu Joseph was privileged to travel before the players in order to reach a certain agreement with the football agents at Lebanon in the month of October 2019. Four other players( ADEEKO DAMILARE, ADISA MUTIU, OYEBODE TEMITOPE, OMENKA ABRAHAM) traveled as well in the month of November 2019 to join the coach in Lebanon for football trails. It was a successful year for GFCI.

2020 started very well with the team as another player, ADEYEMI GBOYEGA joined his coach and other players in Lebanon.
